A classic Mai Tai is creamy nutty and incredibly delicious drink! Made with two kinds of rum lime juice and a sweet spicy syrup laced with almond and orange liquor. The Mai Tai is considered a sour in the cocktail world because it is composed of a spirit citrus and simple syrup.
Many classic drinks are based on “the sour” namely whiskey, tequila and gin sours. As with all original cocktail recipes, the Mai Tai or rum sour (also called a daiquiri) is a delicious balance of citrus sugar and spirit with some extra complexity added. The original Mai Tai is made with Orgeat (sweet almond) syrup but not great for those people allergic to nuts, so Botanikos is working some angles to make our own version of Orgeat by adding a dash of orange blossom and almond extract to our spicy Chocola syrup. Watch out for this tiki cocktail is seriously addictive.
